While foam has been used for insulation purposes in construction industry for decades, in the current scenario, it has been labelled as a non-green material. In response to the search for a greener insulation material, Mineral Wool Board Insulation has recently been introduced as an option to foam.
This material, made primarily of iron ore slag, provides rigid and semi-rigid insulation for both commercial and residential applications. It has been designed for applications over exterior sheathing.
The board is available in various densities. At these densities, the product is rigid enough to be used as exterior insulation, and it provides an affordable alternative to foam-plastic insulation materials typically used in this application. The board also provides commendable sound control and excellent fire resistance without the use of flame retardants. Manufactured in a plant with a minimum 75% pre-consumer recycled content, these products are produced with a urea-extended phenol formaldehyde binder. The heat processing during production drives off most of the formaldehyde, resulting in extremely low emissions.
